About Lesson

Feet are more than just a means of transportation. The reason they hold cultural significance in many societies is because they are very sensitive instruments that recieve and return energies to the earth.

As B.K.S Iyengar said:

“As animals, we walk the earth. As bearers of divine essence, we are among the stars. As human beings, we are caught in the middle, seeking to reconcile the paradox of how to make our way upon earth while striving for something more permanent and more profound”.

We humans often downplay the animal, the ground-bound, essentially the mother, the earth. We think we can climb faster to the stars that way.

But unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. And we are killing ourselves, our earth by attempting it. We are anxious, we are afraid because we aren’t grounded. Just like an electrical current needs to be grounded in order not to sputter sparks everywhere, we to need to acknowledge that our feet are the “plugs” that recharge our batteries.

Today we take a moment to look at our feet from a spiritual dimension, Here are a few rituals from around the world that you can try to help develop that connection

From Japan: Ashiyu soaking your feet in hot mineral-rich water. Put some Sea Salts in warm water in a bucket or tub and soak for 15 minutes or more. Use your inner eye to see each toe, the tops of your feet, the bottoms of your feet. Imagine the feet are transparent and you can see all the bones.

From Morocco Hammam, Make your bathroom very steamy. Sit in the steam for a while. Then hop into the shower or bath. Use a washcloth or pumice stone to exfoliate the skin on your feet

From Hollywood Paint your nails a fabulous color. Choose a color or set of colors that you connect with and has significance for you. You can even paint a meaningful symbol on them if so inspired.
